Sliders end year with win

WASHINGTON — Although it was a tough season for the Slippery Rock Sliders, the team wrapped up its inaugural season in style, blanking the playoff-bound Washington Wild Things 2-0 in Frontier League baseball action Sunday.

Zac Cline (10-7) tossed seven scoreless frames for the Sliders (29-66), scattering seven hits. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Chris Rubio and Jared Simon each tossed a shutout inning with Simon earning his sixth save.

Casey Bowling smacked his ninth home run of the season, one of his three hits in the game. Phil Butch and Bryan Vickers each added a double to highlight an 11-hit attack.

Rene Quintana contributed three of the Wild Things' (55-40) seven safeties.

On Saturday, it was Washington which outpitched its opponent, eking out a 1-0 decision. Chris Sidick's solo home run in the sixth inning proved to be the game's lone run.

Washington used five pitchers in tossing the five-hitter with Ryan Davis picking up the win in relief.

Kory Bucklew was charged with the loss despite allowing one run over eight innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Butch had a triple for Slippery Rock while D.J. Dixon, Jesse Acosta, Cy Donald and Kevin Holley each had a single.
