Police seize drugs, arrest driver after traffic stop

Thomas Bell

More than a dozen baggies of suspected methamphetamine along with bags and jars of suspected marijuana were seized following a traffic stop Tuesday in Buffalo Township, state police said.

Troopers arrested Thomas R. Bell, 29, of Pittsburgh for felony and misdemeanor drug possession, and driving on drugs after they pulled him over about 11 a.m. for traffic violations on Route 28. He later was placed in Butler County Prison.

Police said they suspected Bell was impaired, and they allegedly smelled marijuana coming from his car. He admitted having smoked marijuana earlier that day, troopers said.

Among the items found during a search of the vehicle, according to court documents, were three bags and two jars of suspected marijuana.

Troopers eventually searched Bell, police said, and they turned up 13 individually packaged baggies of suspected methamphetamine weighing about 16 grams.

He later was taken for a blood draw. Toxicology results are pending.

District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Bell on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Bell, who also is charged with seven traffic violations, is in the county prison in lieu of $25,000 bond.
