MCKEESPORT — Police say a jitney driver was fatally shot after picking up a passenger at a housing complex and that it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

Investigators say it happened around 12:10 a.m. today. Allegheny County authorities say the driver, 59-year-old John Haas, was leaving the complex with a passenger when he was shot once in the head. He later died at a hospital.

Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman says Haas may have been mistaken for a gang member.

PITTSBURGH — The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh has commitments of more than $50 million for a new five-year fundraising campaign.The Diocese says Monday that 11 parishes have already exceeded their targets for the $125 million campaign.The funds will support local parish operations and area-wide programs such as technology for schools, the new Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School and support for retired priests and senior citizens.The Diocese of Pittsburgh encompasses more than 200 parishes in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence and Washington counties.

PITTSBURGH — A federal judge has sentenced an Ohio man to a year and a day in prison for making an anonymous video threat to the University of Pittsburgh right after a series of unrelated bomb threats.Authorities say 25-year-old Alexander Waterland, of Loveland, Ohio, claimed to have obtained confidential information on students and faculty in April, 2012.
