EVANS CITY — Three water line breaks in the past 24 hours have disrupted service in the borough as officials are working to place water buffalos in affected areas.

Although public works crews worked through the night and into this morning to fix the breaks, some areas still don't have water while other areas are back to full service.

Police Chief Joe McCombs said this morning he was notifying residents of the problem through the Swiftreach program, which sends automated phone calls, text messages and e-mails across the borough in a matter of minutes.

He also sent a message to Jeff Fuller, the assistant superintendent at Evans City Elementary and Middle Schools.

In the message, McCombs said he is setting up four water buffalos, one of which will be placed in a parking lot at the elementary school.

Others will be placed at the volunteer fire department on North Jackson Street, at the top of Hill Street and at the top of Jefferson Street near Center Street.

McCombs' message also stipulated that borough residents should boil their water for the next 48 hours, ending about noon on Saturday.

McCombs and public works director Norm Nelson were unavailable for comment late this morning.
