PITTSBURGH — Most lanes of Route 19 north of Pittsburgh are reopening, as is a major regional mall that were all closed due to two water main breaks.

Officials say the first break occurred about 2 a.m. today and another was reported two hours later on McKnight Road in Ross Township, which is also known as U.S. Route 19. The breaks caused the pavement to buckle in several areas and sent water rushing along the highway, which was freezing in many spots as temperatures hovered in the teens.

The Ross Park Mall was also closed, but planned to reopen about 10:30 a.m. Most lanes of the highway reopened before 10 a.m.

The two-mile stretch of road that was closed caused major rush-hour delays on nearby detour routes.
