Mars cuts teacher technology program

ADAMS TWP — The Mars School Board voted Friday to eliminate a program that educates teachers on the use of new technology.

That will cut three full-time and two part-time teachers.

The district is looking at cost saving measures because of expected cuts in state funding.

Board solicitor Tom King said the union contract states that those teachers who are losing their jobs can take the positions of teachers who have the same certification but less seniority.

Teachers who get bumped could end up returning to the district through retirements, attrition and resignations, he said.

Superintendent William Pettigrew said the estimated cost savings from ending this program will be determined once the shifting of jobs occurs.
