Adams Area Fire District’s chief is recovering in the hospital after he was injured at the fire station’s training grounds Wednesday, Aug. 19.

President Jason Safreed said Thursday he visited Chief Talo Capuzzi in the hospital “a couple days ago.

“He’s doing well and receiving treatment,” Safreed said.

Capuzzi was training alone when he was injured, Safreed said. The incident is still under investigation.

“While operating a piece of machinery, the firefighter sustained injuries after coming into contact with a concrete barrier,” Safreed said.

He said on-duty personnel immediately rendered emergency medical treatment.

The call was dispatched around 3:50 p.m. Aug. 19 to the fire hall for the injury. Dispatchers reported a man had his leg trapped with uncontrolled bleeding under a large block, according to dispatch recordings.

“The thoughts and support of the entire Adams Area Fire District remain with our firefighter and their family as they focus on recovery,” Safreed said.

He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. Quality EMS and the Adams Area Fire District responded.

Assistant Chiefs Sean Sokolowski and Dan Barr will lead the fire district until Capuzzi is cleared for service.
