HARRISBURG — Students who attend Slippery Rock University will pay $436 more in tuition after a vote today by the Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education.

The board approved the $436 increase for the 2011-12 academic year for the 14 state schools including SRU.

The increase only will partially offset the loss of more than $90 million in state and federal funding the state system will receive next year, or about $802 per full-time student.

The system’s state funding level next year will fall nearly to the level it was in 1997-98. The decrease reflects a loss of more than $52 million in state funding and $38 million in federal stimulus funds.

The new annual tuition rate for full-time resident undergraduate students this fall will be $6,240.

The tuition for this past school year was $5,804 for in-state students, a $250 increase from 2009-2010.
