PHILADELPHIA — A new report ranks Pennsylvania 20th overall among 50 states in child health and well-being but the recession continues taking a toll on the state’s children and families.

The latest Kids Count survey released today by The Annie E. Casey Foundation says Pennsylvania ranked 23rd in the annual study last year.

Despite the improvement, the state lost ground on the percentage of teenagers not in school and not working and the number of children living with at least one unemployed parent.

The percent of teens not in school and not working grew from 6 percent to 8 percent from 2010 to 2011.

The survey says about 10 percent of Pennsylvania children lived with at least one unemployed parent who was actively looking for work.
