Police won't seek Pirates fan who jumped off bridge

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Police aren’t looking to charge a man who jumped off a downtown bridge following the Pirates’ victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Wild Card game.

But they’re really urging others not to follow his example.

Authorities say a man in his underwear jumped from the Roberto Clemente Bridge into the Allegheny River after the Tuesday night game, and then swam to shore and walked away. The bridge is right next to the stadium and roughly 30 feet over the water. The leap was posted online in a YouTube video.

Police Sgt. John Fisher said what the man did is illegal and extremely dangerous, and if they had seen the jump he could have faced disorderly conduct charges.
