Mars Area’s high school kicks off a new school year
ADAMS TWP — Mars Area School District has joined the list of those in Butler County welcoming students back for a new academic year.
The district’s secondary school, Mars Area High School, was buzzing with energy throughout the first day of school, according to members of the school’s staff.
“The first day is always a lot. It’s very overwhelming,” said English teacher Gabrielle Hock.
She said first days usually entail many meetings and a great deal of communication. All things considered, the day went smoothly, she said.
Darcy Silbaugh, another English teacher at the school, said coming back to school after the summer is like getting back on a bike after a long interval: “You never forget.”
“It's great to be back,” said Silbaugh. “We work with great people and the kids are fantastic.”
Students dispersed at 2:30 p.m., with school staff guiding them out of the building after a busy day.
Some students expressed enthusiasm at being back to school activities and mingling with classmates again.
Hock said the first few days usually go fast, with so much going on. However, things will settle down eventually.
Silbaugh described the return to school procedure as a “well-oiled machine.”
“I'm looking forward to having a great school year,” Hock added.
