HARRISBURG — Lawyers on both sides of a court challenge of Pennsylvania's gay-marriage ban have agreed to dismiss Gov. Tom Corbett and state Attorney General Kathleen Kane as defendants.

Papers filed Friday in U.S. District Court say state Revenue Secretary Dan Meuser will be added as a defendant. State Health Secretary Michael Wolf and the Bucks County register of wills were both named in the lawsuit and remain defendants.

Witold Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Pennsylvania, says Wolf's department deals with marriage and deaths while Meuser's department enforces tax laws that are central to the plaintiffs' goal of marriage equality.

HARRISBURG — A bill to require mammograms to include breast density information will take effect in three months now that Gov. Tom Corbett has added his signature.Corbett on Friday signed the Breast Density Notification Act into law, calling it “a logical, common sense bill.”The goal is to improve early detection of cancer among women with comparatively dense breast tissue.The legislation gives women with dense breast tissue information about other ways to screen for cancer.The administration says about 32 Pennsylvania women are diagnosed with breast cancer each day.

SALTSBURG — A Western Pennsylvania high school shop teacher has been charged with raping a 16-year-old student at school, and state police say the investigation is continuing because it began with a complaint from another student about unwanted attention from the teacher.That complaint surfaced just last week, but police say 28-year-old Todd McCullough of Kiski Township raped the Saltsburg High School student in April.McCullough doesn't have an attorney and declined comment after his arraignment Thursday on rape and related charges. He remained in the Indiana County Jail pending a preliminary hearing Nov. 13.The Blairsville-Saltsburg School District says it has been cooperating with police since an internal investigation determined the employee violated district policies and state law.Trooper John Matchik says police consider the investigation “intense and ongoing.”
