Sen. Jim Ferlo won't seek re-election
PITTSBURGH — State Sen. Jim Ferlo, a Pittsburgh Democrat, said Tuesday he won’t run for re-election next year because of redistricting that combined his district with a suburban district held by Republican state Sen. Randy Vulakovich.
Ferlo, 61, has been prominent in Pittsburgh politics for more than 25 years. He was elected to city council in 1987 and was president of that body for a time before he was elected to the state Senate in 2001, replacing Leonard Bodack, also from Pittsburgh.
Under redistricting, Ferlo would have had to run against Vulakovich, who is from Shaler Township.
