Sam Smochek just needed to be a little irked, apparently.

The Slippery Rock junior golfer smashed his tee shot on the 10th hole at Foxburg Country Club on Friday for a rare par-4 hole-in-one.

Smochek was irritated after a bad ninth hole, head coach Merle Whitmer said on the phone, and “smoked it” on the very next shot. Smochek didn’t see the ball after it bounced onto the green left of the pin. He searched for several minutes off the green for it, only to realize he had aced it from 324 yards out.

“He said, ‘I questioned if it was my ball,’” Whitmer said.

Smochek finished with a 74, second on the team to Drake Kreutz’s 73, and the Rockets beat host A-C Valley/Union in a non-region match 306-332. The Falcon Knights’ Joe Rapp had the low round of the day, a 69.
