PITTSBURGH — Scofflaws who run red lights in Pittsburgh will soon run the risk of being caught on camera.

The city council on Tuesday approved the installation of cameras at up to 20 intersections. Violators will be fined up to $100.

Supporters say the cameras make streets safer for pedestrians and drivers. But critics say they're expensive and invade motorists' privacy without having a clear-cut effect on safety.
