Chris Rizzo and his North Catholic football team will represent Butler County on a regional stage and play in front of the Pittsburgh city skyline this fall.

On Thursday, the slate was announced for the new “412 Football Classic,” which will take place at F.N.B. Stadium — formerly Highmark Stadium and current home of the USL champion Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The Trojans will kick off the three-day event, scheduled for Week 8 of the PIAA season, with their non-conference matchup against Neshannock on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Penn Hills will play Moon on Oct. 16, and Hopewell squares off with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart on Oct. 17.

“We’re excited to open the doors of F.N.B. Stadium to these teams and give players, coaches and fans the opportunity to experience their games on a professional stage,” said Jeff Garner, president of F.N.B. Stadium and Riverhounds Sports Group, in a news release. “One of the things that make this venue special is its ability to bring people together for experiences beyond our regular season soccer events. We want the 412 Football Classic to become an annual tradition, giving Western Pennsylvania high school teams the chance to create some great memories at a truly unique venue.”

F.N.B. Stadium hasn’t hosted a football game since 2018. There have been WPIAL football contests played there before, and it is the home of the Pittsburgh Passion — the city’s women’s football team. It was the site of Pitt’s spring game in 2015.
