SUMMIT TWP — St. Wendelin School, part of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church on St. Wendelin Road will host a kindergarten open house at 9 a.m. Feb. 8.

The event is geared toward families interested in the 2006-07 school year. Parents interested in the school's other grades may also attend the meeting, to take place in the school library.

To register, parents must provide their child's baptismal certificate, birth certificate and health records.

All faiths are welcome. Busing is provided for students in the Butler, Karns City, Moniteau, Armstrong and South Butler School Districts.

SLIPPERY ROCK — A Seniors for Safe Driving class will be offered from noon to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3 at the Slippery Rock Senior Center, Slippery Rock Township Building, Branchton Road.According to Pennsylvania law, those 55 and older completing the course will receive a minimum 5 percent discount on their automobile insurance for three years.The class will contain no written exam or behind-the-wheel testing. The YWCA of Butler, 120 Cunningham St., will hold its Granny's Attic Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 3.Clothing, furniture, toys, dishes and other items will be featured.Donations for the sale may be left in the YWCA lobby.

KARNS CITY — A fundraising event for 4-year-old Kelsey Raffles of Chicora will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Fairview Township building.Cost of $10 will include towel/basket bingo, a bake sale and Chinese auction.Proceeds will help Kelsey's family pay for medical expenses associated with chronic renal failure.Doors will open at noon.For more information, call 724-399-0152.

PITTSBURGH — The Art Institute of Pittsburgh's Best Teen Chef 2006 competition will be held March 11. Deadline for entry is Feb. 10.The contest is a precursor to a national cook-off the following month.The event is open to high school seniors who will compete for more than $200,000 in scholarships.For information, call 412-242-0796.Notices, in writing, of festivals, fund-raising events, newly elected officers and other news from clubs and nonprofit groups should be sent to the Focus department one week in advance of the event.
