Paul L. Patten, 94, of 243 Hoon Road, Butler, died at 10 p.m. Monday at the home of his son, Keith, after a short illness.

Born Sept. 4, 1914, in Oakland Township, he was the son of the late Austin Patten and the late Dora Pfeister Patten.

He retired in 1977 from the Butler School District, where he worked for 32 years as an electrician. He also was a lifetime farmer in Oakland Township and sold sweet corn for 35 years.

He enjoyed coon hunting in his younger years. He was a lifetime member of the Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He also was an avid square dancer.

Surviving are three sons, Duane Patten of Butler, Keith Patten and his wife, Nancy, of Butler and Richard Patten and his wife, Effie, of Butler; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lavern Patten of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Snyder Patten, who died Jan. 1, 1994; four brothers, Ed, Clifford, John and James Patten; and four sisters, Mildred, Viola, Sarah and Margie.

<B>PATTEN</B> — There will be no visitation. Memorial services for Paul L. Patten, who died Monday, March 9, 2009, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the <B>Steighner Funeral Home</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora, with Robert Niggel, lay minister of Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Concord Cemetery, Hooker.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Company, Oneida Valley Road, Butler, PA 16001; or to the VNA, 159 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.For more information, directions or to extend condolences to the family, go to www.steighnerfuneralhome.com.
