Janet/Andy
Don't know the gentleman and I have not read his work, but that makes no difference nor is it the point. It doesn't matter what his views are or what the views of any of you are. Not knowing of his disability is understandable, but once it had been learned, she should have acknowledged that and been at least a little contrite.
Common decency has no party lines and should not be used only when it suits you or is convenient. So no Andy, I won't lighten up when it comes to that.
Had someone else done that, especially if it was someone whom she liked, you can bet she'd have been all over the person. But instead it was "damn the torpedoes". I don't know why I expected anything different based on the track record.
