Rowe helps Rock to baseball sweep

Senior second baseman Chase Rowe had six hits, including a pair of doubles, and three RBI to lead the Slippery Rock University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of East Stroudsburg at Terry Park in Fort Myers, Fla., Thursday.

The Rock (8-0) won the first game 7-3 and the second contest 4-2.

The Knoch grad was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in the first game.

Matt Kozusko and Brad Wilson each had a pair of hits to compliment Rowe in the opener.

Rocky D'Angelo picked up the win, allowing three unearned runs on five hits.

Rowe, Wilson, Dave Gonos and Nick Phillips each had two hits in the second-game victory.

Junior left-hander Colin Scott got the win, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out six.

A couple of Butler County products had a hand in the win. Mars graduate Josh Rape pitched 1

scoreless inning and Karns City grad Travis Trimbur pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

In their 8-0 start, The Rock is hitting .375 as a team with an ERA of 2.59.

Zack Thomas and John Crossley teamed up to win the No. 3 doubles and both won in straight sets in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, but The Rock (2-6) still fell to Wilkes College 5-4 Wednesday.

Caleb Courage and Ben Haring each will compete in three events at the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships next weekend at Hope College in Holland, Mich.Both will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles.
