Rock rolls to 2 wins

Courtney Conron and Britanny Hahn recorded wins on the mound as the Slippery Rock University softball team swept Fort Valley (S.C.) College 5-2 and 17-1 Thursday.

SRU (6-2) has won four straight games.

Conron pitched a three-hitter in the first game, striking out nine. Andrea Murdock had a double and three RBI while Carrie Casoni and Kaoni Rhodes had two hits reach for SRU.

Hahn was the beneficiary of a 24-hit attack in the second game, striking out six in a complete-game effort and contributing three hits, three RBI and three runs scored.

Jamie King added three hits and four RBI, while Stacey Rhodes and Jesse Gump each added three hits and two RBI.

SRU coach Mat Meredith called his team's 5-4 win over East Stroudsburg Thursday "the best win I've ever had" as a head coach.The Rock (3-6) bettered its win total from the previous season and kepts its PSAC playoff hopes alive.Keith Kopelcheck clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. He teamed with Ryan Steeh in the No. 1 doubles match to win a 9-8 tiebreaker.Singles players John Crossley and Adam Shosky, along with the doubles tandem of Zack Thomas and Crossley, also won matches for SRU.Thomas and Crossley scored two wins each, but SRU still suffered a 5-4 loss to Wilkes College Wednesday afternoon.Thomas and Crossley won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. They also teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles.Now finished with play in South Carolina, SRU is idle until March 17, when it hosts Washington & Jefferson in a 3:30 p.m. match.

Ashley Michaux and Seneca Valley graduate Ashley Greene won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2, to lead The Rock (3-6) past East Stroudsburg, 6-3, Friday.Michaux won her singles match, 6-0, 6-1.SRU also received singles wins from Butler graduate Jennifer Hutchinson (6-2, 6-1) and Kate Ingram (6-2, 6-1). SRU received two team points by default.The Rock hosts Millersville at noon March 19.
