Knoch student in custody for firearm possession on school property

A Knoch School District student was reportedly taken into custody after carrying a gun onto school property.

The district was notified Tuesday, Aug. 18, that a member of the boys’ soccer team allegedly had possession of a firearm on the property, according to an email from superintendent Melissa Grantz sent to parents and employees late afternoon.

The district said earlier on Tuesday it had received information confirming the student was in possession of a firearm.

“The district takes all reports involving weapons on district property with the utmost seriousness, regardless of whether school is in session at the time of the reported incident. Appropriate action will be taken consistent with applicable law, district policy and the results of the district’s investigation,” Grantz said in the email.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The district said action is being taken to make sure the student “does not return to the district.”

“It is our understanding that the student has been taken into custody. The district will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and participate in the juvenile proceedings, as permitted,” Grantz said.
