SRU softball setting records

The Slippery Rock University softball team continued its torrid play with a doubleheader sweep of Clarion University Saturday.

The Rock (21-9) hit five home runs in the doubleheader, winning the first game 3-2 and the nightcap 10-6.

Melissa Lowrey hit a solo home run in the first game and Stacey Rhoades and Niki Banner each hit two-run shots in the bottom of the third inning of game two.

The Rock has now hit 28 home runs this season, breaking the school record of 26 set last season.

Rhoades was 2-for-4 with three RBI in game two. She has now knocked in 23 runs this season, tying the school record set in 1993.

Brittany Hahn, who tossed what is thought to be the first no-hitter in Rock history on Friday, picked up her 11th win of the season in game two. Her win total ties the school record set by Karen Berg in 1980.

SRU has a chance to break more records this season. With a doubleheader sweep against Clarion Monday, The Rock can tie the school record for wins in the season at 23.

The Rock has already notched its most wins in a season since 1980.

A-C Valley High School graduate Amanda Zychowski scored two goals, but the Slippery Rock University water polo team fell 9-8 to Mercyhurst College Saturday afternoon.Freshmen Beth Choike and Sarah Cicero also scored two goals each for The Rock (9-18).

Ashley Michaux picked up the decision win at No. 1 singles to lift the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Shippensburg University Saturday.Michaux and Kate Ingram teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match for The Rock (5-9).
