Rock softball ties school-win mark
Courtney Conron pitched a complete-game victory to lead the Slippery Rock University softball team to a school record-tying 23rd victory of the season, a 10-2 game-two triumph over Mercyhurst Tuesday.
The Rock lost the first game of the doubleheader 4-1.
The 23rd win ties the 1980 squad that went 23-5 under head coach Jan Kasnevich.
Conron (9-9) tossed her 13th complete game of the year for The Rock (23-17), allowing five hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out two.
Stacey Rhoades and Andrea Murdock had two hits each and scored a total of four runs from the top two spots in the batting order. Conron and Kate Krochmal added a pair of hits.
The Grove City College softball team fell to Geneva 3-0 and 2-1 Tuesday.
Grove City High graduates Stephanie Briggs and Kristen Hughes had the only hits for the Wolverines (8-14) in Game 1. Paula Rice and Kristy Bogusz each doubled and singled in the nightcap.
