Moyer allows 517th HR

LOS ANGELES — Perhaps 49-year-old Jamie Moyer is starting to feel his age.

The Colorado Rockies’ left-hander gave up five runs and seven hits over five innings Friday night in a 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moyer, who turns 50 in November, is winless in four starts with a 6.43 ERA since breaking former Dodger Jack Quinn’s record as the oldest pitcher to win a major league game.

“It is frustrating, but that’s the game of baseball,” the 25-year veteran said. “It’s a pitch here, a pitch there, a hitter here, a hitter there, a base hit ... it can change a game. It can allow a mediocre game to be a mediocre game, a decent game to turn into a poor game or a decent game to turn into a really good game.”

Moyer, who has given up more home runs than any pitcher in history, served up his 517th to the second batter he faced. Mark Ellis drove a 3-2 pitch into the left-field bullpen for his first homer with the Dodgers, who didn’t get another baserunner until Andre Ethier doubled with two outs in the fourth.

Moyer (1-3) is 1-4 with a 6.37 ERA in eight career starts at Dodger Stadium.
