Gas, water clinics offered

Residents who rely on a private well, spring, or cistern for their drinking water can register to attend a Drinking Water Clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. May 31 at the Albert P. Gettings Government Center Annex, 439 Countyline St., New Castle.

Penn State Extension is sponsoring this workshop about proper location, construction, testing, maintenance, protection and treatment of private drinking water supplies.

The cost is $10. Registration deadline is May 25.

Shale gas financial considerations

The Penn State Marcellus Educational Consortium will offer two opportunities to participate in the workshop, “Financial Considerations and Shale Gas Development.”

Sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Venango County Extension Office in Franklin and at 6:30 p.m. May 30 at the Mercer County Extension Office. Both meetings will end at about 9 p.m.

Speakers will include extension educators, a certified public accountant, and legal and financial management experts who will discuss the strategies for financial planning. Topics will include the Marcellus market economics, financial and tax arrangements to optimize retained income, and estate and investment planning.
