An Armstrong County resident was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of casting multiple votes in the 2024 presidential election.

Jeffrey Pope, 65, of Apollo, is charged with violating federal voting laws, according to a news release from the office of United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

According to the release, the two-count indictment alleges Pope has been registered to vote in Pennsylvania since 1999. However, he purchased property in Alaska in 2023. The indictment claims Pope voted twice in the 2024 general election, including for the office of President of the United States.

Around Oct. 18, 2024, Pope completed and submitted a mail-in ballot casting a presidential vote in Alaska. Days later, he completed and submitted a mail-in ballot casting a vote for president in Pennsylvania, the indictment claims. The news release did not specify who Pope voted for in 2024.

Maximum sentencing for Pope’s charges could reach up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 or both, the news release said.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
