Woman crashes car into hospital

A woman just discharged from UPMC Mercy Hospital was being treated again in the emergency room after police say she hopped into someone else’s car and drove it into the main entrance, where several people dove out of the way.

Police were not immediately releasing the woman’s name or explaining why they believe she crashed the car about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A University of Pittsburgh Medical Center spokesman says the entrance is closed and the door must be repaired. Patients, visitors and others must use other entrances.

Faulty bus door lock cited in injury

Transit officials say a rear door lock failure sent a woman tumbling from a moving bus Friday, seriously injuring her.

Port Authority of Allegheny County spokesman Jim Ritchie said “a lock mechanism in the doorway” clearly failed, and officials are trying to find out why.

The authority has checked all of the roughly 700 buses in the fleet and found no similar problems.

The woman remains in the intensive care unit at UPMC Mercy.
