PHILADELPHIA — The first same-sex marriages are now in the history books at City Hall in Philadelphia.

Eight couples have been married Friday in the mayor's reception room, days after a federal judge lifted the state ban.

City judges performed the ceremonies as family and friends looked on.

College Spanish teachers Oscar Cabrera and Chris DiCapua say the formal recognition after 18 years together means a great deal to them.

They say they are full of pride for the city and each other after being married by Judge Barbara McDermott.

McDermott believes the couples married Friday reflect the diversity of the city.

Mayor Michael Nutter is out of town, but a deputy says he plans to officiate at same-sex weddings at City Hall on Saturday.

BRIDGEVILLE — Several students will be disciplined for releasing thousands of crickets in a high school as a senior prank.Chartiers Valley School District tells a Pittsburgh television that the students involved in Thursday's prank at the high school in Bridgeville have been identified and will be disciplined. The district spokeswoman, Kara Droney, didn't say what that would entail.School officials aren't saying how many Chartiers Valley High School seniors were involved, though the television station says it was about six.School janitors and teachers were enlisted to help round up the bugs. Some of the prank was reportedly caught on school surveillance cameras.
