Center Twp. to vote on grant resolution for full-time firefighter/paramedic next week

CENTER TWP — A grant to help fund wages for a full-time paramedic/firefighter position at Unionville Volunteer Fire Company will be ready for submission after a vote is taken at an upcoming extension of Wednesday night’s meeting.

Center Township Board of Supervisors recessed its meeting Wednesday, Aug. 12, without taking action on a resolution to commit matching funds toward the Municipal Assistance Program grant. The board plans to reconvene at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, to vote on the resolution.

The deadline for the grant application is Sept. 1. Closing the meeting and holding a separate special meeting would not allow submission of the grant application in time.

The choice to recess the meeting came after Unionville Assistant Fire Chief Nathan Wulff said he has not received confirmation from Franklin or Brady townships — municipalities with partial coverage from the company — regarding how much they definitively intend to submit toward matching funds.

He said he intends to visit the townships, which are scheduled to meet Monday and Tuesday, and confirm their contribution before the board moves forward on Aug. 19.
