Fire district offers outreach, education
In an attempt to change from just a reactionary firefighting force, the Adams Area Fire District offers many outreach and educational programs throughout the year.
According to Assistant Chief Tim Llewellyn, the fire department routinely provides school tours of the fire station, as well as school visits to help impart fire safety knowledge to children.
He said fire station tours are conducted with other civic organizations as well, including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups and any others that request them.
“The basis of our education starts when we are young,” Llewellyn said. “If we can promote positive behaviors and attitudes in students, we can help prevent emergencies in the future.”
He said reaching out to students helps teach them good behaviors when it comes to fire safety, “instilling values and making the world a better and safer place.”
Besides students, the organization also offers outreach programs to the community as a whole, including first aid and CPR classes, which are held for community groups and businesses, on request, he said.
