Raiders advance in Penguins Cup with 4-1 victory
WARRENDALE — Facing an early deficit is not a common occurrence for Seneca Valley's hockey team.
Winning games is and the Raiders put their stamp on Monday's playoff game in the second period.
SV's Andrew Dimond, Bryce Korner and Noah Watkiss each scored in the period as the Raiders rolled over Bethel Park, 4-1, in a Class AAA first-round meeting at Baierl Ice Complex.
The effort came after the team managed just seven shots on goal and trailed 1-0 after the first period.
“We have a lot of guys who were getting their first varsity playoff experience tonight,” said SV coach Anthony Raco. “I don't know if it was nerves in that first period, but we just needed to find our game and start putting more shots on net.”
Dimond helped put the SV faithful at ease with his equalizer two minutes and 58 seconds into the second period. Black Hawks' goalie Nick Guimond made back-to-back saves as a number of players converged at the front of the net, but Dimond made him pay for allowing a second rebound.
