SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock had only three hits. The Rockets had three fielding errors as well.

They also had Gunner Becker — and the senior right-hander was enough to manage a 1-0 District 10 Class 4A quarterfinal baseball win over Oil City Wednesday afternoon at Critchfield Park.

Becker struck out six and scattered five hits in leading Slippery Rock (18-2) to its 12th straight win. He threw 71 of his 92 pitches for strikes.

“That's Gunner Becker. That's just who he is,” Rockets coach Fred Pryor said. “He wants the ball in big games. He gets after it. He attacks. That's him.”

Becker had to be on his game on this day as Oil City pitcher Dylan Chapin was certainly on his.

Chapin threw 53 of his 79 pitches for strikes in a route-going effort. The junior right-hander allowed the game's only run in the top of the first inning.
