Church picnic to be capped by skydiving display on Sunday
There will be more than 100 raffle baskets up for grabs Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Sts. Francis and Clare Parish picnic at St. Wendelin, but the winners of the grand prizes will be chosen via a skydive.
Barb Boltz, business operations manager for Sts. Francis and Clare Parish, said people can purchase a numbered plate at the event, which will be placed onto a field where two skydivers will land to cap off the annual picnic. The plates they land on will be the winners of raffle baskets.
“They all have numbers from 1 to 1,000, and you get the number, and plates are placed all throughout this field,” said Boltz, who added that the skydivers were a hit at last year’s picnic. “These two skydivers come in and whatever plate they land on or pick up, that is the first prize, and the second one is the second prize.”
The picnic is open to anyone to attend, and the dinners are $15 for adults and $5 for youths 10 years old and younger.
Boltz said the picnic will also feature games and food vendors. She said the picnic normally moves 1,500 to 2,000 plates each year, and it’s as much an event for fellowship as it is an event to raise money for the church.
“It’s money for the church. It’s community too,” Boltz said.
The event is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 210 St. Wendelin Road in Oakland Township. The skydive finish is scheduled to take place after 5 p.m.
