A 22-year-old man died in a single car crash Friday in Venango Township.

Around 7:43 p.m. Friday, Butler County 911 dispatchers sent emergency crews to the scene of a one-vehicle crash near 111 Eau Claire Road.

A short time later, Butler County Coroner William F. Young III was called to the scene, where he pronounced the death of Shane Michael Fitzpatrick of Harrisville.

Young said when he arrived on scene, he noticed the vehicle, a Ford Thunderbird, had been split in half.

Young said he found the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and body. An autopsy will not be performed.

State police were on scene, and as of Sunday, they had not released any results from their investigation which may be ongoing.

Emlenton, Marion Township and Eau Claire fire departments, as well as Emlenton Ambulance, also assisted at the scene for the duration of the call, which was a little more than two hours.
