BlueSox' Marcus honored
Butler BlueSox first baseman David Marcus has collected the Prospect League’s Mike Schmidt Player of the Year and Roland Hemond Pro Prospect of the Year awards.
The California (Pa.) University and Ontario, Canada, product led the league with 11 home runs, 49 RBI, 134 total bases, 18 doubles, 30 extra-base hits and a .601 slugging percentage.
His .363 batting average ranked fourth in the circuit.
Marcus was joined on the Prospect League East Division All-Star team by Seneca Valley graduate and relief pitcher Zach Spangler. He set the league record for single-season saves this summer.
Spangler lost out to Chillicothe closer Derek Hendrixson for the Galen Woods Fireman of the Year Award, however. Hendrixson had 17 saves and a 1.89 earned run average in 52.1 innings pitched.
