IN BRIEF
Gasoline prices in California rose to another all-time high Sunday after passing a four-year high a day earlier, according to AAA. The four-cent-per-gallon jump Sunday was even bigger than Saturday's jump, which was just a fraction of a penny.
AAA reported in its latest update on Sunday that the statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $4.65 Saturday's average of $4.61 was the highest since June 19, 2008, when it was $4.60. Sunday's price, like Saturday's, was the highest in the nation, with the Golden State leapfrogging Hawaii this week as the state with the most expensive fuel due to a temporary reduction in supply.
TOKYO — Honda is recalling about 489,000 CR-V crossovers in the U.S., Europe and Africa, from the 2002 to 2006 model years because an electrical switch in the driver's side door could melt and cause a fire.Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall Saturday for 268,000 vehicles in the U.S.Honda is also recalling 220,000 CR-V vehicles in Europe and 98 in Africa for the same problem.Honda said rain or other liquids could enter through a driver's open window and damage the master power switch on the door. If that happens, the switch could overheat and melt, causing a fire.No injuries or crashes have been reported related to the problem, but five fires have been reported in which the switch and the cover around it overheated, caught fire and melted. All the recalled vehicles were made at a Honda plant in Great Britain.
DETROIT — Chrysler is recalling thousands of Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks from the 2009 and 2010 model years because of a problem with a rear axle pinion nut that could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall affects 44,300 trucks.Models affected are the Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks manufactured from July 1 to Nov. 30, 2009.The federal agency said that a lack of adhesive may cause the rear axle pinion nut to loosen. If that occurs, the axle could lock up and the driver could lose control of the vehicle. Government and company officials said there have been 15 reports of rear axle failure, including four that resulted in loss of vehicle control. There have been three minor injuries.
