Rock wrestler wins title
Slippery Rock University captain Jason Cardillo defeated four opponents Sunday to win the 165-pound championship at the Cleveland State Wrestling Open.
Cardillo (15-5) defeated Appalachian State's Brett Houghton 13-3, then defeated unattached Keegan Mueller 4-2 and Lehigh's Ben Bishop 7-4 before being awarded the weight class title by default over unattached Troy Letters, a graduate of Shaler High School.
Chris Clarke reached the championship bout at 125 pounds, but dropped a 9-0 decision to Franklin Gomez (unattached). He had earned three wins by decision to reach the finals.
Forward Nick Christy, defender Matt Furlan and midfielder David Keller were named to All-Northeast Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
