Kiev musicians coming to Adams
ADAMS TWP — The soul-stirring music of the Kiev Symphony and Chorus will ring from the rafters at Mars Alliance Church on Route 228.
Charlie and Ruth Ann McChesney, members of Mars Alliance and board members of Music Mission Kiev, said 34 vocalists and eight instrumentalists from the 160-member symphony and chorus will perform at the church at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
The performance is open to the public, and tickets are available at the church, at the door the night of the performance or by calling Ruth Ann McChesney at 724-772-1063.
Proceeds from the concert, which is the group's last in a 40-concert tour of the Eastern U.S., will benefit more than 400 disadvantaged Ukranians, who have been displaced by war, through food, medical care, worship services and fellowship.
The musicians will stay for two nights with members of the Mars Alliance Church, where they will enjoy a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner upon their arrival.
“It's been a big job, but we're excited about them coming,” McChesney said.
She said while Mars Alliance hosted the Kiev Youth Orchestra in 2013, the Oct. 26 event marks the first time they have welcomed the adult component of the symphony and choir.
The group will perform in Grove City on Oct. 27, then travel to New York before returning to Kiev.
