Erie amusement park plans to add wave pool
ERIE, — A 118-year-old amusement park in northwestern Pennsylvania plans to open a wave pool by next spring.
Waldameer Park & Water World will also add a concession stand, new restrooms, and more ticket booths as part of a $10 million expansion. The wave pool will have a capacity of about 1,000 swimmers.
The Millcreek Township Planning Commission and the township’s supervisors must still vote to approve the expansion plans later this month.
Paul Nelson, the park’s owner and chief executive, said if that happens, construction will begin the day after Labor Day. He’s hoping the wave pool will open by May or early June 2015, though construction will depend on the severity of winter weather.
Park president Steve Gorman said the pool construction will also include installing pipes for other eventual water park additions.
