SRU swept by California

It was a rough weekend for the SlipperyRock University baseball team.

After The Rock was swept in a doubleheader againstCalifornia (Pa.) University at Cal on Friday, 6-5 and 5-4, the Vulcans did it again Saturday at Critchfield Park, toppling SRU3-1 and 6-0.

Derek Blyzwick pitched well in the opener Saturday, going the distance and surrendering no earned runs.

But four SlipperyRock errors led to three unearned runs and the loss.

Ryan Dillon went 2-for-3 and scored the lone Rock run in the Game 1 loss.

Corry Ryan went 6X\c innings for Cal before yielding to Robert Hedrick, who got the last out for the save.

In Game 2 Saturday, Chris Doerschner tossed a three-hit shutout for the Vulcans against The Rock.

Todd Schickling, Dave Gonos and Chris Tolliver got the only hits for SRU.

With the four losses to Cal, Slippery Rock (31-19, 13-7) finished tied for second in the PSAC-West and received the third spot in the playoffs.

Cal (33-16, 17-3) won the conference.
