Cranberry officials back citizen-based redistricting
Township supervisors put their support behind changing the congressional and legislative redistricting process, after the township was split by the new congressional map laid out by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
The board passed a resolution Thursday supporting a citizens commission for legislative and congressional redistricting.
Cranberry was split between Districts 16 and 17 in the new congressional map laid out by the court, after the previous map was ruled an unconstitutional gerrymander earlier this year.
Four of the township’s nine voting precincts were split as well. “We have areas where one side of the street is one congressional district and one side is the other congressional district,” said Dick Hadley, supervisor board chairman.
Residents can find a map or textual descriptions of the changes to the map on the Pennsylvania Department of State’s website at www.dos.pa.gov.
