PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania's president, Amy Gutmann, is now the school's highest-paid employee after a 35 percent increase in compensation in the 2012-13 fiscal year.

Gutmann was paid $2.82 million in overall compensation. The details were included in new tax filings. Robert Muller, CEO of Penn's health system, was the second-highest paid school employee at $2.37 million.

Last year, Gutmann was the sixth-highest-paid private university president in the nation and second-highest-paid Ivy League president, behind only Lee Bollinger of Columbia.

UNIONTOWN — A former state driver's license examiner has pleaded guilty to taking bribes from immigrants who were given licenses without having to pass driving tests.Marvin Mills, 58, of Vanderbilt entered a general plea of guilty to bribery, tampering with public records and unsworn falsification. His attorney asked the judge to consider house arrest to allow his client to keep his current job as a bus driver and care for his ailing wife. He said his client took the money to pay for medical expenses.
