More than 25,000 drivers committed violations regarding school zones and buses from 2021 to 2025, according to data from Pennsylvania Courts.

More than 325 of them were in Butler County.

Data shared Friday, Aug. 7, showed 67 county drivers were charged in 2025 with overtaking a school bus. It is the highest since 2023, when 77 drivers were charged. Another four were charged with speeding in a school zone in 2025.

According to the data, from 2021 to 2025, there were 287 drivers in the county charged with overtaking a school bus and 39 charged with speeding in a school zone. Statewide, 8,302 drivers were charged with overtaking a school bus and 16,834 were charged with speeding in a school zone.

The largest number of these citations — 16% — were issued in September, according to Pennsylvania Courts. Another 14% were issued in October and 12% were issued in March.

Allegheny County was among the worst counties for violations. Almost 19% of statewide citations for overtaking a school bus and around 7% for speeding in school zones occurred there.

Of those cited, the majority of offenders range from 20 to 39 years old. Most of the offenders are male.
