Hornyak

Jerome J. “Jerry” Hornyak, 92, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 6, 2026, at Concordia at Cabot.

Born Sept. 2, 1933, in Valencia, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine Polena Hornyak.

Jerry proudly served his country as a member of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division from 1953 to 1955. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Over the course of more than three decades, Jerry rose through the ranks from laborer to operator and eventually into county and district management roles.

A devout Roman Catholic, Jerry’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish at Holy Sepulcher Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus there. He found joy and solace in his connection to his church and spiritual devotion. Jerry cherished the simple pleasures of his life on his farm.

Family was at the heart of Jerry’s life. He is survived by his sons, Jerome Hornyak II (Cindy) and Albert Hornyak (Sharon); as well as his daughter, Jane Roth (Bill). He was a proud grandfather to Allison Embacher, Jenna Hornyak, Katie Baldwin, Jennifer Sledz, David Hornyak and Miah Hornyak; and a great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. Jerry also shared a special bond with Loretta Dillner, whose companionship enriched his later years.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Hensel Hornyak; by his parents, Albert and Catherine Polena Hornyak; and by his brothers, Albert and Charles Hornyak.

Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, faith and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched through both personal connections and professional contributions.

HORNYAK — Friends of Jerome J. “Jerry” Hornyak, who died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at St. Mark the Evangelist Parish at Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler, PA 16002. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Tarentum.
