Gardening through the Decades: Bicentennial through today
“Gardening through the Decades” is the theme for this year’s Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Butler County (Butler County Master Gardeners) education booth at the 2026 Butler Farm Show. This year, the Master Gardeners are highlighting the agricultural changes and similarities between the bicentennial and our nation’s 250th anniversary.
Visitors to the Master Gardeners’ education booth can learn how indoor and outdoor gardening has transformed with technology, share and pick up tried and true gardening tips and tricks, and discover how pest and weed control have evolved over the years. Visitors of all ages are invited to participate and learn!
Master Gardeners will be in attendance to answer questions on all garden-related topics throughout the duration of the Butler Farm Show. Information about becoming a Penn State Extension Master Gardener and the group’s upcoming events will also be available. Master Gardeners also will have information on current invasive species concerns, including spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) and its host plant, the tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima).
The Master Gardener display will be in the commercial buildings near the lake.
The Farm Show will be held at the Butler Farm Show Complex, 625 Evans City Road in Connoquenessing Township, from Aug. 10 to 15. Gates are open daily from 8:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10 per person. Admission includes parking, entertainment, exhibits, most grandstand events and unlimited midway rides (except boat rides). Visit the Butler Farm Show website at https://butlerfarmshow.com.
