Scheibel

Esther M. Scheibel, lovingly known as “Essie May,” of Renfrew, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 25, 2026, while under the compassionate care of Good Samaritan Hospice, surrounded by her family.

Born June 17, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Esther was the daughter of the late Robert and Esther (Kruse) White.

Esther graduated from North Allegheny School District and went on to attend Grove City College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She began her career as an elementary school teacher with the North Allegheny School District before continuing her calling at Penn Township Elementary School. Later, she substituted at Evans City Elementary School, where students fondly knew her as “the candy lady” because she always had sweet treats to share. Her love of children and teaching also extended to her church community, where she taught Sunday school at St. Matthias Church in Evans City.

Esther had a gift for connecting with people wherever she went. With her warmth, humor and lively spirit, she had a way of becoming the heart of any room she entered. Above all, she treasured time with her seven grandchildren. Each one shared a special bond with her, whether through weekly phone calls, Monday night trivia, beloved songs, weekly hair appointments, thoughtful cards for every occasion decorated with her XOXO artwork or the countless small traditions that made each grandchild feel deeply loved. She never missed a first day of school or going to the kids’ sports or activities.

She found joy in life’s simple, beautiful moments, especially sitting on her front porch with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds and watching for the hummingbirds that visited her porch.

Esther lived a full and vibrant life, one marked by kindness, laughter, faith and love. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind memories that will be cherished always. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

Esther leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Brooke Jackson (Jim), Joellyn Gutmann (Eric) and Alyson Wingerson (Joe); and her grandchildren, Colten Gill (Louis), Cara Wylie (Matt), Evan Gill, Jonathan Morgan, Lauren Gill (Chris), Kathryn Wingerson and Skylar Wingerson.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Scheibel; and brother, Robert S. White Jr.

SCHEIBEL — A service for Esther M. Scheibel, who died Saturday, July 25, 2026, will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at The Stables at Connoquenessing, 856 Evans City Road, rear, Renfrew, followed by a celebration of life from 3 to 5 p.m.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
