HARMONY — The bicentennial of New Harmony, Ind., will be celebrated at Historic Harmony’s annual Harmoniefest from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Stewart Hall, 218 Mercer St.

The event is held in association with Historic Harmony’s membership meeting and will include dinner, awards and presentations.

Kathy Luek, administrator of the Historic Harmony Museum, said the event will celebrate the Feb. 15, 1805, signing of the articles of association.

“(Harmoniefest) is a way for members to get together and look back at what happened over the year,” Luek said.

Registration for the event is closed.

Connie Weinzapfel, director of Historic New Harmony in Indiana, will speak on the town’s history as well as its current status.

Weinzapfel said she also will discuss a project for the bicentennial celebration that included a competition held three years ago challenging architects to design an affordable, sustainable and green home inspired by the homes built when New Harmony was established.

The show house is being built, Weinzapfel said.

“I have so much admiration for the Historic Harmony group and all of their volunteers,” Weinzapfel said.

Weinzapfel said the rolling hills of Pennsylvania resembled the landscape of Bavaria, from where Harmony’s founders left in the early 1800s.
