4 accidents take place on I-79 this morning

LANCASTER TWP — Accompanying the snow overnight were four vehicle accidents along Interstate 79 this morning within a 25-minute span.

According to Butler County 911 records, ambulances were not sent to any of the crashes, which occurred between 6:16 and 6:39 a.m. and included one overturned vehicle.

The snow caused several school districts to close. Butler, Moniteau, Mars, Seneca Valley and Allegheny-Clarion Valley districts canceled classes today. The remainder operated with two-hour delays.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh says the snow is not done yet.

A forecast for Butler County calls for continued snowfall today of 2 to 4 inches. Snow showers will continue through tonight and into Saturday. The accumulation then is expected to be 4 to 8 inches of snow.

The area is under a winter weather advisory through 7 p.m.
