SRU water polo unit wins behind Brunner

Slippery Rock University senior Erika Brunner scored six times and added three assists as The Rock's women's water polo team closed out its home schedule with an 11-8 victory over Washington & Jefferson, Sunday afternoon at the Morrow Field House pool.

Brunner now has 242 goals in her collegiate career.

The win improves SRU's overall record to 5-13.

Kayla Ray managed two game-winning hits as SRU swept a doubleheader against visiting Edinboro, 3-1 and 12-11.Ray's two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 1 held up, giving the win to Rock hurler Courtney Conron.Ray then drove in the winning run of Game 2 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Sheree Horvath picking up the win inside the circle.

Seneca Valley graduate Ashley Greene teamed with Jessica Hilborn to win the No. 2 doubles match as The Rock (21-4) defeated Bryant College (RI) by a score of 5-1, Saturday at the Bloomsburg Duals competition.

M.J. Parsons' single scored Rich Michalek with the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh inning as SRU won the second game of a doubleheader, 9-6 at Indiana (Pa.) University.The Rock (20-10, 6-4) dropped a 1-0 decision in Game 1.

Sarah Milewski scored The Rock's lone goal in a 20-1 home loss to Shippensburg.
